Welcome to the website of Winner Group, an association based in Kpalime, Togo, West Africa. We are a grassroots organisation dedicated to helping women in need, fighting for gender equality and for the eradication of poverty in our community.
Since the UN Decade for Women, 1975-1985, Togo has been committed to raising the status of women at all levels. From 1985 to 1995, several arrangements for women were taken during international conferences and conventions to create an enabling environment for development and equality between men and women.
An analysis of poverty in Togo, prepared for the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, correctly revealed an imbalance between men and women in the access to, and control of, resources. One way to create sustainable and equitable development is to develop and implement strategies which counter inequalities between men and women. Togo has endorsed this approach by adhering to the recommendations of the Beijing conference.
Women today deserve to be involved in the decision making process of society, in order to improve their, and way of daily life.
Objectives 3 and 5 of the UN Millennium Development Goals are to: promote gender equality and empower women; and to improve maternal health. The goals note the potential of NGOs and women’s associations working at grassroots level to sharpen the awareness of the population and build leadership capacity in matters of organisation and project management for sustainable human development;
We recognize that poverty is a disease to fight, and are striving to eradicate it all forms to allow poor people to meet their basic needs and improve their lives; Involving women in society’s decision making progress is one way to do this.
